Hello all,
Retired, grandad, gardener, I hesitate to say 'golfer' in case anyone gets the idea I can play. The same with chess! Have a look at a great on-line site called RedHotPawn! John at the golf club who is in his 70s found the site. We're not sure what he was looking for. I have just over an acre of garden with views of the Thames and some of Oxfordshire's countryside. Had a greenhouse once but it turned out to be a green abatoir. Wellll, I was working. It was in the wrong place. I now use cold frames and have the time to look after them. I first started garden at school in Suffolk in the early '50s. Would you believe it was on the curriculum? Daft thing is, I went to sea for 12 years so didn't use the knowledge. It's coming back!!

Hi mrsw,
Yes, lack of nutrients is a possibility but other plants seem to be thriving. That's gardening isn't it? Some plants do well in some places and not others. There's an update on my gallery. Also a pic of my Judas Tree, Cercis siliquastrum which is real picture just now.

May be all the rain we've had lately has washed all the nutrients out the bank. May be a super feed is the answer?

Yes, we've been here just over 30 years and this overnight snow (April 6/7) was the most we've seen in that time. It didn't last long but was lovely while it lasted.

Thanks Tony. I hadn't thought of feeding! Funny thing is, they all looked ok in Feb and March aaannnndd, would you believe, we're here in Oxfordshire and my sister up near Cambridge has lost some of her rock roses also! As for the wind, I can be working on there in shirt sleeves while people walk past in winter coats! Gardens eh? Who'd 'av 'em?

or maybe the nutrients are running away? Might be worth an experiment where you super feed one with manure, and so on.

hi Dudley - welcome to gerd3ns. I'm wondering if the bank catches the wind particularly in winter? But even so...

Pic of "The bank" which is 30 yds wide, 4 yds deep on an angle of about 45 degs south facing. I've lost six or seven 2 yr old rock roses this year! Any good folk out there any ideas why this might be?
